The TAC rebate.
from 1 July 2026
From 1 July 2026, the TAC pays a rebate of $250 toward each one-hour psychology session. That's the rebate — not the session fee. If your psychologist's fee is higher than $250, the difference is a gap you cover; if not, there's nothing to pay.
We process the TAC rebate directly, so you never pay the full fee and wait to be reimbursed — the only thing you pay on the day is the gap, if there is one with your psychologist. We'll confirm exactly what that is before your first appointment. No surprises.

See your doctor for a referral
TAC-funded psychology requires a referral from a medical practitioner — usually your GP. If you don't have a regular GP, any doctor can refer you.
Have your claim or participant number ready
We'll need either your TAC claim number or your participant number to bill the TAC on your behalf. You'll find it in your correspondence from the TAC.

Mention you're a TAC client when you book, and bring your referral and your claim or participant number to your first session.
We handle the rest
Within the first 90 days after your accident, the TAC pays for your first six sessions without needing prior approval. Beyond that, we prepare and submit the Mental Health Treatment Plan the TAC requires, and bill the TAC directly. You focus on the work; we manage the paperwork.

Do I need a referral to use TAC funding?
Yes — a referral from a medical practitioner, usually your GP, is required for TAC-funded psychology.
Does the TAC need to approve my sessions first?
Not at the start. Within the first 90 days after your accident, the TAC pays for the first six psychology sessions without prior approval, provided you have a referral and an accepted claim. After that, we submit a Mental Health Treatment Plan on your behalf and the TAC reviews ongoing funding.
Will I have out-of-pocket costs?
The TAC pays a rebate of $250 per one-hour session (from 1 July 2026), which we process directly. If your psychologist's fee is above the rebate, you pay the difference as a gap — confirmed with you before your first session.
What if my accident was more than 90 days ago?
You can still access TAC-funded psychology — it just means approval is needed before sessions begin. We prepare and submit that request for you.
Can I do sessions by telehealth?
Yes. The TAC pays for telehealth psychology related to your accident, and many of our TAC clients prefer it — particularly those for whom travel itself is part of the problem.
Can family members get support?
In some circumstances, yes. The TAC can pay for counselling for immediate family members when a loved one has died or been severely injured in a transport accident.
What if my claim hasn't been accepted yet?
