Trauma Therapy – Heal with Expert Support from Clinical Psychologist Joanne Toh

Gentle, evidence-based trauma support with clinical psychologist Joanne Toh at Clarity Psychology. In-person and Telehealth sessions available.

When Trauma Shapes Your Life

Trauma doesn’t always leave visible scars — but it can deeply affect how you think, feel and relate to others. You might feel constantly on edge, emotionally numb, disconnected from loved ones, or overwhelmed by memories and triggers. Everyday situations can suddenly feel unsafe or exhausting.

These experiences are not your fault. They’re common, human responses to distressing or overwhelming events. With the right support, it’s possible to feel safer, more connected, and more in control of your life again.

What Is Trauma-Informed Care?

If you’re seeking help for trauma, it’s important to choose a therapist who offers trauma-informed care.

Trauma-informed care means:

  • Prioritising safety, trust and choice in every session
  • Understanding how trauma affects the brain and body
  • Avoiding re-traumatisation through respectful, collaborative therapy
  • Recognising the role of power, control and shame in trauma recovery

A trauma-informed psychologist won’t rush you to talk about painful events before you’re ready. They’ll respect your pace and autonomy, helping you regain a sense of agency — not just treat your symptoms.

At Clarity Psychology, all our work with trauma is grounded in trauma-informed principles. Joanne Toh brings a deep understanding of how trauma impacts individuals and how recovery looks different for everyone.

Clinics That Aren’t So… Clinical

Therapy can be daunting enough without having to sit in a cold stark clinic. We want to make you feel at home during your sessions with us.

How Trauma Therapy Can Help

Trauma therapy is about more than just managing symptoms. It’s about restoring your sense of self, rebuilding safety and connection, and moving toward the life you want to live.

Joanne draws from a range of evidence-based therapies, including:

  • Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT) – to reduce distress and challenge negative beliefs linked to trauma.
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) – to help process and reframe the impact of traumatic experiences.
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) – to support values-based action even in the presence of difficult thoughts and feelings.
  • Schema Therapy – for those whose trauma has affected long-standing beliefs about themselves and others.
  • Mindfulness and grounding techniques – to manage flashbacks, anxiety or emotional flooding.

Treatment is flexible — you don’t need to go into details before you’re ready, and you remain in control at all times.
